More Than Just Earth Day Every year, Earth Day serves as a reminder across the world to slow down and appreciate the natural world around us—but for many of us, this isn’t something we celebrate just one day a year. It’s a lifestyle, a responsibility, and a passion we carry into every season. At American Daughters of Conservation, we believe that conservation isn’t just about big initiatives or sweeping change—it’s also very much about the small, intentional actions we take every day. It’s in how we show up outdoors, how we share knowledge, and how we inspire the next generation to care just as deeply. This month even more so than normal, I challenge you to take one extra step for conservation. Whether it’s introducing someone new to the outdoors, supporting a local conservation effort, picking up trash at your favorite spot, or simply taking the time to learn something new—your actions matter.Various chapters are planning Run for the Trees Earth Day Gatherings – you can contact local leaders to see if your chapter is participating and for additional details like when and where!Welcome to the Team Welcome Amy as the newest Michigan Vice President! I’m Amy Grice! I live in Beaverton, Michigan. I have a husband named Justin and three spirited Labrador retrievers, I enjoy spending my free time hunting, fishing, kayaking, hiking, and scuba diving. I’m a paramedic, volunteer fire fighter and on the local dive rescue team. I absolutely love anything to do with archery hunting. Whether it’s deer or turkeys. I spend my summer planting food plots and scouting on my family farm. I also love to bird hunt. Ducks and geese in the fall. Turkey in the spring. I spend my free time ice fishing or kayak fishing when I’m not in the woods! I look forward meeting you all and helping the ADC.  History in the Making! Potential to Changes to laws in Massachusetts On Thursday, March 19th in Falmouth, Massachusetts the governor announced that she is moving forward in support of next steps to make three major changes in the hunting laws for the Bay State. The three changes that we expect to move to legislature very soon are – Sunday Hunting Massachusetts & Maine are the last 2 states that have a full ban on Sunday hunting. Crossbow use for anyone as a legal method of archery hunting Moving the setbacks for archery from a dwelling from 500 feet to 250 feet Though this is a huge step for the governor to support these changes, this fight is far from over. I encourage all of my Massachusetts residents, and even non residents who hunt in the Commonwealth, to write, call and email our representatives to support these changes. This is the next step in a monumental change for our state. Alongside the governor, other speakers included Department of Fish & Game Commissioner Tom O’Shea, MassWildlife Acting Director Eve Schlüter, and Public Health Commissioner Goldstein, MD, PhD. Not only is this effort to support the deer populations in Massachusetts, but also a matter of public safety as it relates to tick borne illnesses. You can read a more detailed account of the announcement and detailed quotes here. I was lucky enough to attend the event, alongside of many other supporters of these changes. Two of these women are in fact ADC members who also wear hats working on our Fish and Wildlife department. Sasha Dyer & Emma Ellsworth, both women that I admire very much. I have been watching these ladies advocate so hard for these changes for all sportsman’s rights here in Massachusetts, and am proud to call them both friends & ADC sisters. As a busy mother who spent many years juggling my children’s sporting schedules, while fighting the strong desire to be in the woods, this is a giant step in the right direction for the hunting community in Massachusetts. A tremendous amount of work went into gathering public input, and the staff at MassWildlife did an outstanding job evaluating over 11,000 comments. The feedback from conservationists across the state was articulate and clear that hunting opportunities should be expanded. I look forward to working with the Healey-Driscoll Administration and the legislature to see that these recommendations become law. If this moves forward, busy working families across the state will finally have much needed time to share their outdoor passions and traditions with their children. – Sasha Dyer – MA F&W board member representing the Central District, ADC member, Mom, hunter  Ohio Fights for Their Rights Another state that is currently working on their hunting rights is Ohio. Ohio is joining the list of states that are starting the fight for their constitutional right to hunt, fish, & trap. 24 of our 50 states already have passed this, with Florida being the most recent in 2024. It’s up to outdoorsmen & women t make their voices known, as they have a bill in the Senate, but are trying to get them to move on it. We are asking Ohio residents to take this action, which emails the Senate leadership. Ohio Senate Joint Resolution 8 would protect the right to hunt, fish, and harvest wildlife in the Ohio Constitution, including the use of traditional methods. The resolution also makes clear that wildlife conservation and management laws remain in place, and that nothing in the amendment overrides trespass or property rights.  Learn More Member Mentions Sasha Dyer – Massachusetts A huge shoutout to Sasha for winning the Lady Huntress Award from the Massachusetts Bowhunters Association! Sasha’s buck scored 135 6/8 and is a boomer! Unfortunately, the coyotes took the chance to get a weight off the deer but this buck was a bruiser regardless!   Brenna Hadden – South Carolina: Brenna won this years Osceola Turkey Hunt with none other than our founder, Brenna Nuckols! Success for these ladies as Brenna who was super new to turkey hunting put the hammer down on this gorgeous bird called in by Brenna Nuckols! My entire family has always deer hunted but I’ve always wanted to get into turkey hunting. God blessed me with this amazing experience and I am hooked on turkey hunting! Brenna Hadden – SC Member    Chapter HighlightsVirginia ChapterThe Virginia ladies of ADC hosted Boots n Brews : Shamrock Edition! A few ladies from the Virginia Outdoor Women program joined for a 4.1 mile hike at Pocahontas State Park in their most, festive St. Patrick’s Day attire and then gathered for post-hike shenanigans at a local brewery for pizza, drinks, and fun!  Arkansas ChapterOur Arkansas ladies chased Snow Geese this past month on an unplugged conservation hunt! The ladies snagged some snows and then learned how to process them to take home. It was a slow 2 days, but we didn’t get skunked! Kathrene Damron – Arkansas Chapter President   Florida Chapter Our Florida Chapter had a booth at “Meet Florida Meat” which is an event for the public to connect with local farmers and ranchers! The gals spent the weekend sharing the good word of ADC and getting their chapter some exposure. Attending Meet Florida meat allowed ADC FL to connect with a new audience that we might not otherwise get a chance to talk to. This event was all about bringing local farms, ranches, small businesses etc, together for one huge weekend. The event is a great way to talk about our role as women in the outdoors and how we play a part in conservation. We had a successful weekend talking about our mission, gaining some new members and a lot of new friends. We will be back in 2027! Diedre Brown – FL Chapter Vice President   Northeast Chapter The Northeast ladies had a chapter booth at the last expo for the winter expo season at the NH Outdoors Expo. The ladies made some great connections with some new potential sponsors, got some new members signed up, and raffled off two trail cameras to raise money for our GMCC fund. Overall we got some great exposure out to one of the states in the chapter that has one of the lower representations of members and the support that we got from other organizations, especially from men, is phenomenal. Sheryl Magdycz – NE Chapter President The Northeast Chapter also had the pleasure of awarding our 5 GMCC Scholarships! Our winners are: Marina Sokransky – Texas Cierra Crandall – Vermont Lillie Weber – Vermont Evelyn Leduc – Vermont Lilly White – New York We expect this program to continue and to grow over time and are thrilled to offer these 5 young ladies scholarship to GMCC. We cannot wait to see how much fun these young ladies have at camp this summer!   Pennsylvania Chapter On February 28th, Pennsylvania Game Commission held a Women’s learn to squirrel hunt. The PA gals posted it on their chapter page and used it as a meet & greet and had 6 ADC members attend. We couldn’t have asked for nicer weather either! We met up for introductions, followed by some range time for those who were new to hunting, came in for a catered lunch then were sent out to our designated areas to hunt. Out of the 16 ladies who attended only 1 squirrel was harvested by a lady who had never been squirrel hunting before. We shared laughs and experiences and exchanged information to keep in touch! Kayla McKeown – PA East Vice President The chapter also held a “Make your own Plastics” event hosted by one of our sponsors, Heritage Baits and Lures. The ladies came out and learned about different types of baits, what colors are best for different types of waters, and which fish prefer what kind of baits. They also learned the process of making plastic baits along with the safety and materials needed. Everyone got to choose what color and what species they wanted to target before diving in and creating their own plastics to take home for their upcoming fishing season! Kayla McKeown – PA East Vice President    For more information about specific events please contact Chapter Leaders directly you can find their contact directory here See Event Details Field Notes from the Editor  As someone who was lucky enough to grow up hunting and fishing, it’s not often that I find myself stepping into the field with zero knowledge with the opportunity to try something completely new. Trapping has been on my “bucket list” for a while, but I hadn’t met anyone truly willing to teach—until now. This month, I was lucky enough to connect with someone who has a real wealth of knowledge to share, and the experience did not disappoint. One thing I really want to highlight is this: when I first asked if I could tag along, I wasn’t sure if the “yes” was genuine—or just polite. Being a part of ADC for the last few years and meeting so many new people in this community of the outdoors has given me some more confidence in asking questions. If you read the full story, you’ll see how it played out. But more importantly, what I want to share with all of you who are hungry to learn is this: asking can be the first step. It’s not always easy. In fact, asking for help or guidance still gives me anxiety, and it’s more often than not anxiety over NOTHING. Ask. Ask for help. Ask for education. Ask your questions. There are no stupid questions—and anyone who makes you feel that way isn’t someone you want to learn from. Get out there ladies and go after it.  The Northeast Chapter is hosting their first ever fundraising banquet as well as presenting a few member awards! We are going to have a lunch of smoked bbq as well as apps and dessert!
